Abstract

The dissertation focuses on the design and verification of a new methodology of quantitative lymphoscintigraphy of upper limbs. The proposed quantification is based on simplified Bayesian modelling of the radiotracer accumulation dynamics on the pre-specified regions of interest (ROI) on the limb. Bayesian decision theory in conjunction with the model is then employed to make inference useful to physicians. The whole time activity curve (TAC) is estimated and estimate uncertainty characterized. TAC forms the quantification basis and serves for construction of quantitative indicators that are expected to characterize lymphedema stages. The dissertation offers an efficient quantitative comparison of patient limbs so that suspicion on bad state of one of them can be reliably tested.
