Abstract

This paper deals with temperature control of the temperature processes. Recently developed theory of higher-order sliding modes allows a design of the new control algorithm. This algorithm is based on sliding mode control acting on the higher order time derivatives of the sliding variable. The main advantage of this algorithm lies in elimination of the chattering effect. Another benefit consists in the possibility of using of the simple ON/OFF heaters. Firstly, the paper briefly introduces basic sliding mode control theory and its higher-order generalization. The main aim of the paper is design of the higher-order sliding mode controller for a laboratory model of the temperature process and comparison of this approach with other standard control techniques.
