Abstract

This paper describes model based predictive controller with manipulated value constraints. This controller is suitable for substitution of the classical PID controller used in industrial practice. The controlled system is approximated by first order plus dead-time system or second order plus dead-time system or the exact step response sequence can be used as the process model. The other design parameters are the prediction horizon, the control horizon and the complexity of the initial control sequence when the controller works in saturation mode. The so called pulse-step blocking strategy is used for complexity specification. Afterwards the controller works in linear mode based on LQ control.
